Snow Moon Fever

Tonight's full moon is known by many Native American people as the Snow Moon. The reason is as simple as the fact that February is generally the month that has the most snowfall. (Judging by where I live in Toronto it is very aptly named. Yesterday was a rare snow day as over 8 inches of the white stuff fell nonstop in a 24-hour period.)

Many tribal cultures hold the moon and its cycles in extremely high regard, going so far as to time social rituals to align themselves with phases of the moon. The Temne people in Sierra Leone, currently 35% of the population and the largest ethnic group in the country, time their coming out ceremony for girls with the full moon. They believe

“The moon is considered female, the wife of the sun.”

Here are the names of all the full moons in 2015:

January - Wolf Moon

February - Snow Moon

March - Worm Moon

April - Pink Moon

May - Flower Moon

June - Strawberry Moon

July - Buck Moon

August - Red Moon

September - Harvest Moon

Have you given much thought to your menstrual cycle in relation to the cycle of the moon? Did you know that Darwin theorized that menstruation was directly related to the action of the moon on the tides?

Are you in tune with the synchronicity between your body and the lunar cycle? Do you have a 28 day cycle or thereabouts?  If so, you really should make a mental notation of the phase of the moon on the day you get your period. After that it is easy to track your changing cycle with the changing moon. Being in tune with this is empowering and can help your days and months accordingly.  Did you know that just as people read their astrological horoscope, you can also read you "Hormone Horoscope" based on where you are in your cycle.
